3D reconstruction plays a very important role in gynecology. It can detect abnormalities in a way that is unattainable with regular 2D ultrasound. Today, we will discuss its role concerning IUDs. In the featured image, in 2D, the IUD appears to be in place. However, in the 3D reconstruction, the IUD is seen off center with the arm imbedded within the myometrium.

Beryl Benacerraf M.D., an academic radiologist who studied at Harvard, has written many articles and spoken at many conferences, discussing the fact that abnormally located IUDs may be a common cause of pain and bleeding. In a study of 167 patients with an IUD, it was found that 17% of patients had an IUD imbedded in the myometrium or cervix.

At Soundwaves, we believe in the importance of providing high quality using the latest technology, therefore we routinely perform 3D reconstruction for patients with IUDs, especially patients presenting with pain and/or bleeding. This is one of the many things that sets us apart from other services. If you’d like to offer the latest technology to your patients, please contact us. We look forward to working with you.
